Black Bean Burgers
Build a better black bean burger this summer for grilling without the ground beef!
Ingredients:
3 cups black beans, drained and rinsed
1/3 cup grated yellow onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbsp adobo sauce
1 Tbsp tamari
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1 large egg
1 cup bread crumbs
Extra-virgin olive oil
Cooking spray
Hamburger buns
Fixings
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine beans, onion, garlic, adobo, tamari, balsamic, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mash together with a potato masher until the mixture holds together. Black bean chunks are okay. Add egg and fold using a spatula until combined, then repeat with the bread crumbs.
2. Using your hands, form 6 patties. If your mixture is too wet to handle, chill in the fridge for 20 minutes or mash everything a little more.
3. Lightly brush your patties with olive oil, spray your grill grates, and grill for 8 minutes on the first side and 4 minutes on the other.
4. Put it on a bun and top however you'd like!
